        ABOUT THE AUTHOR

James Houston Jolly retired from the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) in 1993 after serving 20 years as a Mineral Commodity Specialist.

The USBM specialists were world-reknowned for their technical expertise in all aspects of their industries. Highly regarded by his colleagues, Jim Jolly is the author of over 100 articles on zinc and other minerals and brings that background to this synthesis and summary of the U.S. zinc industry.

Jim graduated from the University of Oregon with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geology. After a year and a half as an underground mine geologist in the Coeur d'Alene mining district of Idaho, he spent the next nine years with the U.S. Geological Survey and then the USBM as a mineralogist and metallurgical researcher. He worked the next four and a half years in the Copperbelt of Zambia as Roan Selection Trust's Chief Mineralogist before rejoining the USBM as a Commodity Specialist.

Jim Jolly's rich background of practical experience in the mining industry, in addition to his years of commodity and market experience, is reflected in this in-depth study of the U.S. zinc industry. A thorough compendium of data, definition, and history, the U.S. Zinc Industry: A History, Statistics, and Glossary will be a useful primer for those interested in mining and the zinc industry the world over.
